who we are

Wilton SEPTA is the Wilton Public Schools Specialized Education and Student Support Services Parent Teacher Association. The Wilton Special Education PTA, SEPTA, is a dedicated group of parents and educators and student from all four schools, in the Wilton Public School district including the Wilton High School Genesis Alternative Program and Community Steps program. Wilton SEPTA works in partnership with our individual school PTAs and local nonprofit organizations, as a collective voice to promote a rewarding educational experience for all students.

We welcome all individuals who care about the welfare of students with diverse needs and who want to help create an inclusive and supportive environment.

Mission

The Wilton SEPTA’s mission is to build compassionate, trusting, and collaborative relationships with all members of our schools and community. We strive to ensure that the diversity of all children receiving Special Education and related services will be supported, celebrated and socially embraced. Collectively, we will work to increase access to resources; empowering every child with the opportunity and inspiration to thrive.

Members

Any individual that has an interest in the welfare of students with diverse needs.  Membership is open to everyone!

 

  • Wilton SEPTA believes that it takes a community approach to support strong special education programs and dedicates itself to promoting positive and productive interactions that foster understanding and unity.

 

  • Wilton SEPTA devotes itself to enhancing the educational experience of all children receiving special education services by providing additional support, opportunities and programs necessary to further enhance the enrichment experience of all children receiving special education services.

 

  • Wilton SEPTA is dedicated to bringing parents and teachers together to create a unified network of information and support for both parents and teachers involved in Special Education through the development of workshops, support groups, newsletters and website.

Goals & Objectives

  • To be a positive and solution-oriented group, serving as a resource to families of children with special needs from preschool through high school. 

  • To educate parents and the broader community on Special Education issues and services, including the identification and placement procedures for children with special needs as well as to work closely with teacher and the School District.

  • To enrich the lives of children and their families by providing educational and social opportunities. We celebrate individuality and the unique abilities of all children.

  • To ensure that all children receive an education that allows them to reach their full potential.

  • To bring together parents, families and teachers of children with diverse needs in order to share their experiences in a positive a collaborative environment.

  • To inform legislators, school boards, and the community about the importance of special education programs.

  • To improve the lives of children by providing cultural, social and physical enrichment, providing support, information and encouragement in order to ensure that the educational, social and emotional needs of our students are met. 

  • To advocate for children with diverse needs and their right to a free and appropriate public education in the least restrictive environment.


We propose to do this by:

  • Increasing parent and community awareness of special education through a series of educational programs 

  • Promoting increased communication between parents, community and professionals 

  • Searching for the most interesting and useful resources available 

  • Providing timely and relevant links to informative web sites through our web site
